What the landlord did was completely over the top. He was acting like a complete moron. What he did was wrong and way more wrong than what you did, if you can get through my clumsy phrasing. In fact, now that I read your post again, and see that it was a business building after business hours I think the landlord was completely off his rocker. In any event, the landlord had no right to touch your car or restain you OR your car in anyway. I would have grabed my cell phone and called the police. I would have taken the ticket for unauthorized parking and the cop would have written up an "incident report" which, at a minimum, would have documented that the landlord "detained" my property. An individual cannot detain the property of another without a court order. If the cop was the least bit sympathetic to you he or she would have witnessed the scratches to your wheel in the report as well. If you lucked out, and the cop was a car or motorcycle enthusiast, and you sucked up a bit, the cop might have even written up the landlord for disorderly conduct which, in my mind, it clearly was. My original post was just my exposition of where I thought you screwed up. You handled the situation as well as possible given the high emotion of it. And the landlord was wrong. If I was there, I would have taken your side even though YOU initiated the situation. I would have been the 51 year old guy, at first calling the cops, and then soothingly suggesting to the cop that you get a parking ticket while the landlord gets a disorderly conduct ticket. I would have traded your pawn for his bishop, to use a chess analogy. I think I could have sold that. That seems to be the correct and porportional response, on all sides, to what to what happened. I didn't mean to be too tough on you in my original post and I hope this clarifies my postiion. Mark
